Justine Gomes

Hi, I'm Justine.

My Story

I’m originally from northern California where the redwood trees meet the Pacific Ocean. In this remote community, my mother birthed me with the support of her partner, mother, and midwife by her side. As a young girl, I was told the story of my birth– I was my mother’s first baby, and I was the midwife’s one-thousandth baby. My entire life I’ve cherished my birth story. In this story, my love for supporting and nourishing families was born.

When I was 15 years old, I supported someone in labor for the very first time. The birthing person was my mother. As I watched in awe, my mother gave birth to my youngest brother, I witnessed the most extraordinary thing I could imagine. This moment so profoundly inspired me that it eventually shaped my perspective on birth, my own birth experience, and what I’m most passionate about.

In 2020, my daughter, Flora, was born and I became a mother. This experience reawakened my calling of becoming a birthkeeper. After spending seven years working in education, I retrained as a doula and prenatal and postpartum nutritionist.

In early 2021, my family and I moved to Amsterdam, and we had to quickly learn how to navigate the Dutch system without a ton of community. Three years later in February 2024, we welcomed a second baby with the support of a wonderful birth team here in Amsterdam. As an expat myself, I’d love to support you along this unique journey into parenthood.

When I'm not on call,  you can find me in the playground or teaching childbirth education at Mom & Co and The Labour Dept.

At the heart of my work is a deeply-rooted belief in the strength, resilience, and brilliant design of our bodies. I have a holistic approach to supporting my clients through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. There is no right way to give birth, and I understand that every family has different needs, experiences, and wishes. I am passionate about learning how to best support my families, training in birth and postpartum care, nutritional support, prenatal massage, and childbirth education. I’m constantly studying traditional wisdom and up-to-date research to give you all the options available.
